The Avocado is officially Queen Green

July 16, 2015

Avocados – Sorry Kale you’re no longer Queen Green… All Hail the Avocado!

Now before I go any further, I would just like to point out that I have been obsessed with the avocado since day one (it probably helps that I am a vegetarian/pescatarian)

Why should you be eating them?!

  • Avocados help aid weight loss
  • Boosts your brain performance
  • Incredibly nutritious
  • Avocado help control blood pressure
  • Improves your heart health
  • One of the cleanest produce around
  • Contain more potassium then bananas
  • Loaded with fibre and antioxidants
  • May help prevent cancer
  • Easy to incorporate into your diet
  • THEY ARE DELICIOUS

Here are some of the most abundant nutrients, in a single 3.5 ounce (100 gram) serving (3):

  • Vitamin K: 26% of the RDA.
  • Folate: 20% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin C: 17% of the RDA.
  • Potassium: 14% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin B5: 14% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin B6: 13% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin E: 10% of the RDA.

Then it contains small amounts of Magnesium, Manganese, Copper, Iron, Zinc, Phosphorous, Vitamin A, B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin) and B3 (Niacin).

This is coming with 160 calories, 2 grams of protein and 15 grams of healthy fats. Although it contains 9 grams of carbs, 7 of those are fibre so there are only 2 “net” carbs, making this a low-carb friendly plant food.

There is literally SO much you can too with these green babies. You can have avocado on toast, add them to smoothies and salads… You can create a stuffed avocado by adding a flavourful filling of your choice say tuna, egg, goats cheese, prawns, smoked salmon, vegetables, couscous… AHHH I’m hungry again.

Avocado's rule!

On that note I will leave you with some mouth-watering pictures of avocado dishes that you could try out at home.

An Escape to the Horseshoes East Farleigh Kent

July 14, 2015

Showing my Aussie friends the Kentish hidden delights ‘The Horseshoes’ East Farleigh, Kent!

A rainy ‘very British summer’ Sunday evening was brightened up with a cosy dinner for four at The Horse Shoes in East Farleigh, Kent.

A quote from their website:

‘Village pubs don’t get much more relaxing than The Horseshoes in East Farleigh. Pull up a chair by one of our log-fires, or stretch out in our sun-soaked beer garden, and enjoy some of the best-kept cask ales in Kent. We also offer top-notch pub-food, sometimes served alongside a cracking session of live local jazz.’

It had been a little while since I visited this restaurant so I was looking forward to seeing how it had evolved over that time.

For starters we had a generous helping of Chicken liver parfait, Scallops and Pea and Mint Soup. For the main course the 3 meat eaters had a trio of meats roast dinner and I had a fisherman’s platter; which was actually a sharing dish but I was feeling piggy so ate the lot myself.

Service was good but a little slow with our food but we were with good company and were happy to wait a little longer. The staff were friendly and attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed my pea and mint soup whilst I thought the fish platter was simply ok. The bread was slightly too thick for me, but that is just my preference. Two bottles of house red were consumed; South African Sauvignon Cabernet which was really good x2.

My friends from Australia had a fantastic evening and really enjoyed the food, which of course made me happy. They especially loved the drive itself to the restaurant; they had never seen so many tiny/narrow roads. I sometimes forget how beautiful Kent is.

The views outside are attractive with the horse stables right next door. The atmosphere inside was simply charming and the restaurant is decorated beautifully with lots of character.

All in all, there were no issues for me not to want to come back and it was the perfect place to show my friends the Garden of England; Kent.

Helping Hands

June 24, 2015

Helping Hands

Every day at Victoria station, whether its on my way to work, the gym, lunch etc I pass at least 5 homeless people. I always carry food with me; 1) Because I am always hungry… and most importantly; 2) To make sure I can give it to someone who needs it more than I.

Today I have been going around the station dropping off food packages to every homeless person possible. As my current office

and place of day to day work is located very close to an organisation named ‘The Passage’, which is on St Vincent’s Centre, Carlisle Place, London. I have decided to donate to this organisation. ‘The Passage’ runs London’s largest voluntary sector resource centre for homeless and vulnerable people: each day they help up to 200 men and women.

The 40-bed hostel, Passage House, was officially opened on 1 March 2000. In the year 1st April to 31st March 2013, 23 residents completed a planned move on. They welcome and treat clients with respect and dignity, and find out what they need and want. They offer professional and appropriate advice and help according to the client’s needs and aspirations. An action plan is agreed with clients which is time limited with the aim of supporting clients out of homelessness.

It costs over 4million a year to The Passage going, only 40% is funded from statutory sources; the rest comes from donations from individuals, church organisations, charitable trusts and companies.

I think this organisation is fantastic and I am very happy to get behind it.

Banana Baby

October 23, 2014
banana

I going to be loud and proud and admit I am obsessed with bananas! I am not about to go banana crazy but I do blend one or two almost everyday (that’s if I am not chopping up the little yellow fella and chucking it into my baobab cinnamon porridge.

I did a little research online and found 25 awesome Banana ‘facts.’

Due to my kind hearted nature I thought it was only fair to share all the banana facts/uses below:

ENJOY

  1. Bananas help overcome depression due to high levels of tryptophan, which is converted into serotonin — the happy-mood brain neurotransmitter.
  2. Eat two bananas before a strenuous workout to pack an energy punch and sustain your blood sugar.
  3. Protect against muscle cramps during workouts and nighttime leg cramps by eating a banana.
  4. Counteract calcium loss during urination and build strong bones by supplementing with a banana.
  5. Improve your mood and reduce PMS symptoms by eating a banana, which regulates blood sugar and produces stress-relieving relaxation.
  6. Bananas reduce swelling, protect against type II diabetes, aid weight loss, strengthen the nervous system, and help with the production of white blood cells, all due to high levels of vitamin B-6.
  7. Strengthen your blood and relieve anemia with the added iron from bananas.
  8. High in potassium and low in salt, bananas are officially recognized by the FDA as being able to lower blood pressure and protect against heart attack and stroke.

    Eating Bananas Aids Digestion

  10. Bananas act as a prebiotic, stimulating the growth of friendly bacteria in the bowel. They also produce digestive enzymes to assist in absorbing nutrients.
  11. Constipated? High fiber in bananas can help normalize bowel motility.

  13. Bananas are a natural antacid, providing relief from acid reflux, heartburn and GERD.
  14. Bananas are the only raw fruit that can be consumed without distress to relieve stomach ulcers by coating the lining of the stomach against corrosive acids.

Natural Cures From A Simple Banana

  15. Eating bananas will help prevent kidney cancer, protects the eyes against macular degeneration and builds strong bones by increasing calcium absorption.
  16. Bananas make you smarter and help with learning by making you more alert. Eat a banana before an exam to benefit from the high levels of potassium.
  17. Bananas are high in antioxidants, providing protection from free radicals and chronic disease.
  18. Eating a banana between meals helps stabilize blood sugar and reduce nausea from morning sickness.
  19. Rub a bug bite or hives with the inside of the banana peel to relieve itching and irritation.

  21. Eating a banana can lower the body temperature and cool you during a fever or on a hot day.

Sahara Star, Mumbai India

Sahara Star – Mumbai India

I lived at the Sahara Star hotel in Mumbai, India from September-December 2012. During this time I was working as Model/Hostess in India for Sahara. I throughly enjoyed my stay there and have always wished to return in the near future. The people are warm, friendly and incredibly hospitable. I highly recommend checking it out if you are planning on visiting Mumbai. It has serene ambience for both business and leisure travellers. The location is ideal as it only 10/15 minutes away from the airport and the hotel offers taxi services which is perfect so you do not have to flag one down in the street.

The hotel has a luxurious vibe with many attractions for example; a picturesque tropical lagoon that looks up to the world’s largest pillar less clear-to-sky dome. There are also three compound-curved, custom-designed glass elevators with panoramic views. It has 223 attractive rooms including 13 luxurious suites which are complimented by “7 specialty” restaurants which makes choosing places to eat each day/night a challenge!

The Ocean Restaurant is simply breath taking, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is beautiful.  There is a private dinning room which holds India’s largest marine aquarium providing home to many wonders of marine life. The dining room is perfect for private soirees as well as special celebrations. It is exclusive in every manner and features customized menus, elegant table settings and special service.

During my stay, I was lucky enough to live in several of the Earth Rooms, each one overlooking the tropical lagoon. The guest rooms are furnished with either a king-size bed or twin beds. All of the Earth room open to a balcony where the guest can enjoy a relaxing evening & a spectacular view. Room service is good and there is a boutique gym and spa on the ground floor. There are several gift shops in the hotel and a bakery… YUM!

I loved eating at the Earth Plate! There is a huge selection of food to choose from and even the fussiest of eaters would manage to fill up a plate or two! I always found myself loading up a second plate at the buffet. The desert table is extremely tempting and I would often have to trial several cakes and different ice cream flavours after my main meal(s)… Thank heavens they have a gym! What I found impressive was the fact that there was always something different on offer every day.  I liked the fact every now and then they would introduce foods from one particularly country i.e. One week in the month they may have a Thai week. And there would be an extra table of special dishes from Thailand to try out. The Earth Plate was by far my favourite place to dine at the Sahara Star!

I would love to go back in the near future 🙂

Sheesh that was Good!

August 14, 2014
I have been to Sheesh a few times; it is always a perfect evening.

To start the night off I usually order a few cocktails; Sheesh Martini, Cosmopolitan, Expresso Martini etc… Just to get the evening going.

I particularly rate the Meze Starter as you get a nice selection of dips and bread which you are able to share with 3-4people. I usually dine with quite a few friends so we normally order 2 or 3. For my mains I would say my favourite dish is the Fener Baligi (Monk fish kebab) which is sensationalFor desert I usually go for the little hot donuts with maple syrup and ice cream topped with pistachio and cinnamon… Just describing this desert is already making my mouth water… Mmm… The donuts arrive hot but not too hot to gobble down in a matter of seconds… they are unreal!

All the food portions are generous and everything is so god damn tasty! I would never really order Turkish food but I do love it here. The restaurant is always busy and at the atmosphere has a real buzz. The restaurant is fun, friendly and seriously glamourous. It is a lovely little place to eat especially if you are looking to celebrate your birthday. The staff are friendly and the manager Colin is always very welcoming and kind.

Valentines Day in Marseille

August 12, 2014

I joined the InterContinental on Valentines evening 14th Feb for several cocktails and a light bite with my parnter. We had travelled to Marseille Vieux Port for a long weekend and I would have to admit dining at the InterContinental was the highlight of our stay in Marseille. We began the evening with several Manhattans which quite quickly got us into a good spirit for the evening. The staff were fantastic and made an already good evening even better. One particular staff member called Julian, was very accommodating even his staff moved silently and professionally around him even whilst he was getting to know his guests. Having spent some hours at the InterContinental we sadly had to leave (at 1AM) having enjoyed many cocktails, several light bites to eat and a bottle of wine…

I hope we were well behaved at the end of the evening 🙂

Food Festival On Carnaby St.

July 23, 2014

As a self confessed foodie of course I was going to make my way over to the first food festival taking place on Carnaby Street, Sunday 20th July between the hours of 11am – 6pm.

There was 30 of the area’s best restaurants, bars and cafés who brought along their top notch dishes out onto the streets of Carnaby
It was free to attend and there was a range of £5 taster dishes, one day only offers and free food stands such as ice creams (obviously I made a beeline for the ice cream que… My chosen flavour was Crème brûlée… Mmm

There was also a series of expert cooking demonstrations led by presenter and foodie Hardeep Singh Kohli which was interesting to watch and I was able to pick up a few tips.

I went to check out all the awesome dishes with a couple of girl friends and my brother. We were around the area (Carnaby St. & Regent St. for a couple of hours). Regent St. was also closed off for catwalk shows, dance acts, live music was playing along with various other cool attractions such as a Pimms bus and man made garden.

We had a great day and luckily for us the weather was pretty on point too. Looking forward to attending another food festival soon… mmm maybe a chocolate one? 😀

Getting Ma’ Juice Ownnnn

May 19, 2014

If anyone knows me well enough, they would know I love all things fruity, sweet and scrumptious! I am particularly obsessed with trying out new ‘fads’ especially when it comes to food and drink.

Luckily enough I was able to try out a few funky new flavours from an exciting new brand called Chogazpacho!

Each juice is a mix between sweet and savoury which includes 2 of your 5 a day. They are low in sugar and salt, contain 180calories per bottle and are made from all natural ingredients. The juices are bottled into glass which is good for recycling junkies like myself 🙂

On first glance… A tomato and strawberry juice looks a little strange… Hmm what a weird combination…But alas is totally works, and whats more it tastes freaking awesome!

Im a sucker for Beetroot regardless so this was always going to be a winner…

Beetroot & Apple.

Lastly my taste buds were treated to the glorious Pepper and Tomato combo! Which, I have to say was my favourite juice out of the 3. It totally works and both flavours go together perfectly.

But don’t take my word for it… try it them out for yourself

Fun fact I didn’t know…… Tomatoes, peppers and olives are all fruits?!?

Early Mothers Day Treat

March 21, 2014

I had been secretly planning a surprise night out (and hotel stay) for Mum for a couple of weeks. As we are both always busy on the weekends… the only date we were both available was 14th- 15th March. So It was an early Mother’s Day gift 🙂 First, I surprised her with a FAMILY sized suite at the Mayfair Hotel, complete with two QUEEN beds (ahhhhmazingggg) It was our first time staying in the Mayfair. The Hotel was just breath taking…. ahhh I wish I could live there! http://www.themayfairhotel.co.uk Next we had some lunch and had a bottle of white before letting on to her I had booked double makeovers at Benefit in Carnaby Street!  Our makeup session lasted an hour and half (partly due to my purple smokey eyes taking foreverrrr). After I bought a few products for us both and luckily we had just enough time to dash into Zara so I could grab an outfit for tonights dinner. We strolled back looking ‘oh so glam’ to the Mayfair Hotel where I presented her with prosecco, macaroons, a card and present (a cute LBD) 🙂 We put on our glam rags, I straightened Mum’s hair and I had already curled my the night before (which was a god send and saved me so much time having to do it). We were picked up in a Rolls Royce at 8:45pm outside the Mayfair Hotel… (NICE) and dropped off at 5 Hertford St. – Lou Lou’s * a private members club * We met my friends in the Martini Bar, had a cheeky cocktail then popped downstairs for dinner, champagne and unlimited amounts of wine. The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered around 10 starters to share which included Tuna Tartar, Lobster, Prosciutto, various Salads, Breads, pasta, Zucchini, pasta and various other fish and meat dishes. I had the black cod which has got to be my FAVOURITE dish at the moment… it tasted like a slice of heaven! Mum had Sea bass and for desert we had a creme brûlée tart 😀 After dinner we headed to the night club in Lou Lou’s were we danced the night away with champagne and a few Baileys. http://5hertfordstreet.co.uk We were dropped off at the Mayfair Hotel in the early hours of the morning in the Rolls Royce…. The day/night could not have been any more perfect. It was exactly what I imagined 🙂 YAY I had the best time and from what I could see Mum had an absolute ball! We woke up early; thankfully Breakfast was included… We needed something to cure us! After breakfast we checked our and headed into Bond St for a spot of shopping in the sun 🙂 PERFECT. http://www.selfridges.com Chloé xXx

Pancake day at home with family

March 5, 2014

Soooo yesterday was Pancake Day! Sorry the correct term is Shrove Tuesday… Wow it was a good day. I stuffed myself silly on pancakes sweets chocolates and anything remotely sugary! SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR.

Every year my Mum prepares a pancake treat for the Family and this year was no exception.. well the only exception of Ben and Will not being around to join in the fun; MEH more pancakes for ME I mean… ‘US.’ They are currently in Birmingham for University… The only two out of the eldest six who decided university was the right path to choose! I for one am proud they got their shizz together and went on to gain a high education… You go glen cocoa’s.

Anyhow… back to Pancake Day! SO IT WAS AMAZING! I ate three pancakes… filled with a variety of interesting topics… banana, crunchy and smooth peanut butter, ice cream, Philadelphia cheese spread, original lemon and sugar, Nutella, kiwis, marshmallows, marmalade, smarties, golden syrup, sprinkles and even chucked on cookie and cream protein powder (mixed with cream of course) for good measure!

FYI Orange Smarties taste different to the rest of the coloured smarties! Actual FACT! They taste of chocolate orange… If you have not discovered this you must now go to your nearest shop and taste for yourself hehe.

People who attended the Othen/Alexander Pancake Day Bash.

Me, Gemma, Jessica, Natalie, William, Ben, Stuart, Gareth, Luke and Oliver 🙂

So as I officially went HAM on Sugar yesterday… Today is now a SAD SAD day… Out of choice I have given up Chocolate, Sweets, Biscuits, Cakes, Ice Cream oh and Bread so NO croissants, bagels, currant buns, sandwiches, bread rolls, toasted pannis… mmm lets not dwell on my past eating habits as today I embark on my new challenge: LENT! I have always given up my favourite foods/sauces/drinks etc for Lent since I was 15 and this year is no exception.

After 2x chocolate yoghurts, 5 biscuits (not including half a pack I ate yesterday at work) another pack of smarties, a few cheeky spoonfuls of Nutella and peanut butter together – this is heaven btw. I ended my night with my last chocolate fix of a 247 calorific kitkat chunky and a bucket load of peanut butter (obv a family sized tub for me).

Wish me luck and please pray for me.

Chloé
